What exactly is a Canstruction® Competition?
It’s a national charity competition initiated by the Society of Design Administration and organized locally by SMPS Long Island to design and build structures entirely out of canned foods. Five person teams of architects, engineers, designers, contractors and/or those professionals mentoring students, associations or businesses can enter! All food is donated to our local food bank, Long Island Cares/Harry Chapin Food Bank.
It starts with one can. To feed the hungry. To lift the spirit. To change the world. Canstruction® puts a visual spotlight on hunger while showcasing the Long Island design community’s best and brightest. Think you have what it takes to design and build a structure made of canned food, ingenuity and luck? Enter today. Get creative, help stop hunger! One can!
Awards are given in the following categories:
- Best Use of Labels
- Best Meal
- Juror’s Favorite

Local winners are forwarded to an International Competition via photography, to be judged in June 2009.
